Configuring your ASUS Router through http //router.asus.com/:

When you successfully login into the ASUS admin interface you will now be able to change any settings that are available.
While configuring your router be careful so that you don’t break the network.

QUICK TIP: Always write down your current settings before you change anything so that you can revert it in case of the problem.

  • What to do in case my ASUS router or network stops working after the configuration change?

If by mistake you make some change that resulted in breaking your ASUS home network, you can always go back to zero by following the generic 30 30 30 hard reset trick.

This is usually the last resort, and if you still have access to the ASUS interface you can always log in to try and revert the settings first (This, of course, assumes you wrote down the original value before changing it).

  • How to perform the 30-30-30 sequence?

  1. Once you power on your router, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
  2. While you have pressed and held the Reset button, unplug the power of your router and again hold the Reset button for another 30 seconds.
  3. Keep holding down the Reset button and turn on the power of your router again and hold it for another 30 seconds.
  4. Make sure that the router boots up with its original factory default settings and you can access those default settings.
  5. If the router does not work even after a 30-30-30 reset it might be that it is broken and you should consider buying a new router or sending your existing current router for repairs.
  • Default Login Password forASUS RT-N66U

For ASUS RT-N66U, the proceeding paragraphs will guide you with everything that you need to know. We will provide information on the default password and how to reset the login information in case you have forgotten the password for RT-N66U.

  • Default RT-N66U Login Password

Your ASUS RT-N66U router can be accessed through web manager with any installed browser and you can use the IP login address or http //router.asus.com/. Always use an ethernet connection when you log in to your router to change settings. This will ensure that your changes are put in place and no data is lost during the process.

Sometimes the default login IP address fails to work, if that happens to try considering a hard factory reset so that you can configure your router.

Default IP login address: 192.168.1.1
Default Username: admin
Default Password: admin

  • Resetting Password

In case you change the default credentials of your RT-N66U and then forget it, the default login combination will no longer work and you will keep getting an access denied message. To restore to the factory default settings you will have to perform a hard factory reset. You can do the hard reset by holding down the White Reset button located on the back panel using a pen or straightened pen for 30 seconds and reset default.

  • Changing RT-N66U Login and Password

We suggest that you change your RT-N66U’s default login information to protect against any unauthorized entries or edits to your modem. To change the factory default login, go through the following article:

  1. Select Status
  2. Select Security and use the drop down box if you want to change the username or the password.

NOTE:  you will need the “current” login information to make any NEW changes. However, with the factory reset your default RT-N66U username and password combination would be admin/admin.

If you fail to access your RT-N66U web manager login screen via the default IP address then the probable reason can be the “default gateway” or router’s IP address had been changed before. When this happens, there are chances that someone had changed the router’s default settings including the router’s IP address.

All you have to do is to find the default gateway using “Command Prompt”. For this type in “ipconfig” as one of the command that will help you to find out the correct IP address to login into your RT-N66U.

REMEMBER: The factory reset also resets the RT-N66U into its default IP address, along with the username and passwords.
